01 Who this policy covers
This policy explains how MUA Insurance Uganda TODO(MUA): confirm exact registered entity name collects and uses personal data when you get a quote or buy Motor Third Party or Travel Insurance through this site. MUA is the data controller for the information described below.
02 What we collect
Directly from you, depending on which product you're buying:
- Motor — your number plate, name, and phone number.
- Travel — full name, date of birth, email, phone number, passport number and expiry date, city, address, and details of anyone else on the same policy.
- Payment — your Mobile Money number, or card details. Card numbers, expiry dates, and CVV are encrypted in your browser before transmission; MUA's servers never receive or store them in readable form.
Automatically, when you visit the site:
- Device and browser information, approximate location (country-level), and pages visited.
- Which page or campaign sent you here, recorded so we know which channels are working.
03 How we use it
- To calculate your premium and generate a quote.
- To validate your vehicle or trip details and issue your sticker or policy certificate.
- To process your payment and confirm it before issuing cover.
- To send you your documents and respond when you contact us.
- To meet our obligations as a licensed insurer to the IRA.
- To understand how the site is used and improve it, and to measure whether our advertising is working.
04 Our legal basis
We rely mainly on the need to perform a contract with you — we can't quote, issue, or pay a claim on a policy without this information. Where we use analytics or advertising cookies, we rely on your consent. Where Ugandan insurance law requires us to keep certain records, we rely on that legal obligation.
05 Who we share it with
We only share what each partner needs to do their specific job — never sold, never shared for unrelated purposes:
- ServiceCops, to validate your number plate and issue your Motor sticker.
- Our travel underwriting partner, to quote and issue your Travel policy.
- Flutterwave, to process your Mobile Money or card payment.
- Resend, to deliver your certificate and confirmation emails.
- Google Analytics and Meta, in aggregate/pseudonymous form, to understand site traffic and ad performance.
06 Where your data is processed
Some of the partners above may process data outside Uganda as part of their normal operations (for example, cloud infrastructure or global payment rails). We only work with providers who give appropriate safeguards for that transfer TODO(MUA): confirm each processor's data-residency terms.
07 How long we keep it
We keep policy and transaction records for as long as Ugandan insurance and tax regulation requiresTODO(MUA): confirm exact retention period. If you only got a quote and never completed a purchase, we keep that data for a shorter period before it's deleted.
08 How we protect it
The site is served over HTTPS end to end. Card details are encrypted in your browser before they're sent anywhere, so a full card number never exists in readable form outside your device. Access to customer data is limited to staff and systems that need it to fulfil your purchase.
09 Your rights
Under Uganda's Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019, you can ask us to:
- Confirm what personal data we hold about you, and give you a copy of it.
- Correct anything that's inaccurate or out of date.
- Delete data we no longer have a legal reason to keep.
- Stop using your data for marketing.
To exercise any of these, contact us using the details below. You can also lodge a complaint with Uganda's Personal Data Protection Office if you think we've mishandled your data.
10 Cookies and analytics
We use Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel to understand how the site is used and whether our ads are working. These set cookies in your browser. You can block or clear them in your browser settings at any time, or opt out of Google's advertising cookies via Google's Ad Settings — this won't stop you from buying cover, it just means we can't measure that visit.
11 Minors
This site isn't intended for use by anyone under 18 as the policyholder. A parent or guardian may list a child as a dependant or fellow traveller on their own Travel policy.
12 Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our products or partners change. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the current version.
